Cedars of Williamsburg Bed & Breakfast Voted 7th Best

The Cedars of Williamsburg was selected as the 7th best southern Bed & Breakfast in the southeast United States region by guests via BedandBreakfast.com’s 2005 award process. What makes the recognition even more special is that two Williamsburg B&Bs took two of the eight awards offered in the region, stretching from Virginia to Florida.

Passing of a dear friend and companion

On July 5th we had to put our pet cat, Jessie, to sleep. Jessie had been a part of Grace's and my life since 1984. She shared many of our life's moments and was a very special friend to Grace & I. She was the last of the original four we had when we were first married. Although the smallest, she was Miss Attitude and always had something to say. We miss her very much as do her furry brothers and sisters.

Guess who is going to Lake Placid in 2006

After three years of talking about my Lake Placid Ironman experience, I decided it was time to stop talking and try it again.

On July 26th, the day after the 2005 Lake Placid Ironman, registration for the 2006 opened to the public. By 8:00 PM that evening, all 2000 slots for next year were taken.

My early training has consisted of about 200 miles of bike riding, a few miles in the pool and some short runs. I am trying to work through a lower back tightness but expect to be 100% shortly.

I am working on re-purposing the Ironman4Charity site we used to raise money for charities when preparing for the 2003 event. Hopefully by the next next month's newsletter, I will have it fully operational.

    Meet the Ollivers from Australia

A veteran of several "adventure" rides, I had the occasion last week to spot two folks resting next to two well packed bicycles at one of our local Food Lion grocery stores. They were enjoying a little off- saddle time and having lunch. Thinking they were on a several day jaunt, I said hello and inquired where they had traveled from and where they were heading. I was expecting to hear a trip across Virginia or the Outer Banks.

To my amazement, they had departed San Francisco in early May and were 77 days into a 4 month ride!!! After a 1/2 hour conversation in which I realized they intended to visit the area for a day or two, I invited them to spend the night at the Cedars. They accepted.

The next day at breakfast, we spent most of the morning discussing their adventures. As it turned out, on a previous trip, they had ridden from London to New Zealand. They are looking forward to their ride across China in 2007.
